Se redescribe Helicometrina nimia de Puerto Morelos, Q. Roo, México. Originalmente, fue descrito por Linton, 1910 (Carneg. lnst. Wash. Publ. No. 113. 98 pp.) en Tortugas, Florida y actualmente se encuentra distribuido en casi todo el Continente Americano. Revisiones recientes sitúan al género dentro de la familia Opecoelidae (Yamaguti, 1971. Synopsis of Digenetic Trematodes of Vertebrates Keigaku Publ. Co. Tokyo, no obstante, algunos autores como Manter, 1933 (Carneg. lnst. Wash. Publ. 435: 167- 182), Deelman. 1960 (J. Parasitol 46(5): 13) y Ari, 1962 (An. lnst. Biol. Univ. Nai. Autón. México XXXIII (1,2): 113- 130) los incluyen dentro de la familia Allocreadiidae.
