La Doctora Leonila Vázquez García junto con otras distinguidas universitarias como Helia y Margarita Bravo Hollis, Ma. Agustina Batalla y Amelia Sámano Bishop, abrieron brecha al ingresar al Instituto de Biología y en donde dieron cabal muestra de la capacidad femenina en un mundo intelectual predominantemente masculino.
