Resumen

Sporelings of the fern Dryopteris varia were reared in Knop's solution containing LiCl or NaSCN. As a result. the followink was revealed.
1. LiCl retards the growth of protonema but accelerates the formation of papilla at 1/100 M. so that the papilla is differentiated at 3- or 4-cell stage.
2. NaSCN retards the occurrence of two-dimensional growth at 1/100 M but does not affect the papilla differentiation.
