DEMETRIO SOKOLOFF

Resumen

The author describes a new variety of Lemboides digitiformis Kahl ( a marine holotrical ciliate belonging to the family Philasteridae ) which is different from the form found by Kahl in being half the size and having the oral undulating membrane of a different form than that of the tipical Lemboides digitiormis.
He also reports a peculiar process which takes place in the cysts of Lemboides under adverse conditions and which consists of a division of the infusorian within the cyst accompanied by an unequal distribution of the nuclear substance between the two products, one of which, according to the authors opinion, is beneficiated in the sense of Hertwig's "Kern-Plasma Relation," while the other one is considered as a kind of abortive cell.
