Resumen

In damp places, by the banks of rivers and brooks and under the bark of rotten trees, a certain species of land leech is to be found,
which belongs to the sub-family Haemadipsinae in a new genus Hygrobdella. The characters of this new genus are: normal somite constituted by ten annuli; male reproductory organs formed by ten pairs of testicles and a large median cirrus pouch and two glandular epididymes; female organs formed by a large median ovary and a large vagina, also median. Jaws are deeply located in S. VI and VII; compact salivary glands. There are 17 pairs of nephridia; the excretory ducts of the last pair open jointly in a large median ventral pore, located before the posterior sucker. Number of somites XXIV and 165 annuli. Somites I and II are 1-annulate; III and IV 2annulate; V 4-annulate; VI 5-annulate; VII 6-annulate; VIII 7-annulate; from the IX to the XXI 10-annulate; XXII and XXIII 3-annulate and XXIV 1-annulate. It has 5 pairs of eyes arranged as in Haemadipsa.
