Resumen

The femur, perhaps more than any other human bone, has been used in investigations on the functional significance of bone architecture and mechanics. Samples from it, as well as from other bones, were used by Rauber (1) in determining the compressive, tensile and shearing strength of small bony rods and it was one of the bones whose intact strength was measured by Messerer (2) by placing the bone in a materials-testing-machine and statically loading it to failure.
