LOS BATRACIOS Y REPTILES SEGUN LOS CODICES Y RELATOS DE LOS ANTIGUOS MEXICANOS

Resumen
Old mexicans were good observers of Nature: their drawings representing animals and plants, show, more or less conventionally, many of the morphological characters, some typical for certain species.
Through Sahagún's History, we are able to know, literarily, the knowledge of Botany and Zoology acquired by mexicans till the Spaniards arrival.
Amphibians and reptiles drawn in the "Códices", as may be observed in the figures of this paper, were well observed and represented. References concerning the biology and ecology of these animals are found in Sahagún's History.
Some of the amphibians and reptiles were used for food and medicine by Mexicans and Spaniards. The treatment of rattle-snake-bitten persons in precolombian time was not much different as it is actually done when we have not serums: scarification, suction, burns, etc.
